Why peer-to-peer mentorship

Guiding young women into the technology sector

Peer-to-peer mentorship is a powerful way to guide young women into the technology sector. It helps them build professional confidence and explore new career paths that can feel out of reach in a male-dominated field. That is why, in June 2025, Digital Kala co-founder Labbi was invited to take part as an expert mentor at a special Speed Mentoring event.

Built with

A program designed by Tech Toli

The meaningful program was designed and executed by Tech Toli, a dedicated advocacy project team from the Women LEAD Nepal Lead Course 2025 cohort. The event took place on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Samaanta Foundation office in Thapagaun. The entire project was built around an important and empowering theme: promoting women's participation in STEM, especially in technology fields.

In the room

An interactive format for future leaders

The workshop welcomed around 20 to 30 young women aged 16 to 18, ready to explore future academic and career opportunities in STEM.

A fast-paced rotation

Every participant met every mentor

The session used a highly dynamic rotation format. Labbi and the other industry mentors sat down with small groups of 4 to 5 participants at a time. Every few minutes, the student groups rotated to a new table. This structure gave every young woman in the room a chance to interact directly with all the mentors, allowing for personal conversations, direct questions, and focused advice about navigating the modern digital landscape.

Sharing journeys and STEM insights

What Labbi shared with the participants

As a co-founder of Digital Kala, Labbi shared valuable insights from our organization's ongoing journey in digital literacy and youth empowerment.

Inspiring personal journeys

Real experiences, real career lessons

Labbi shared personal experiences and honest career lessons to motivate the young participants, showing them what a path into tech can actually look like.

Navigating the tech landscape

Practical guidance for entering STEM

The conversations offered practical guidance on entering STEM fields and developing the right technical skills, grounded in the realities of Nepal's tech sector.

Building digital confidence

Pursuing opportunity in a male-dominated field

The mentors encouraged the young women to confidently pursue opportunities in a male-dominated tech environment, and to see themselves as belonging there.

Collaborative feminine leadership

A high-energy afternoon of career conversations

The mentoring segment concluded with an informal networking break and engaging, tech-related games. The entire afternoon was filled with high energy and inspiring career conversations.

At the end of the event, the organizers presented the mentors with a beautiful, thoughtful token of love to appreciate their volunteer time. It was a fitting close to a program built and led by young women, for young women.
